Management Style

Management style refers to the leader's habitual pattern of interacting with subordinates. It forms the basis for decision-making, task delegation, and responsibility determination. Management styles correlate with the type of interpersonal relationships[225].

In romantic relationships, management style refers to the way partners interact and make decisions as a couple. It may include elements such as power distribution, communication, support, and decision-making[226].

Let's highlight the management styles based on Dozenko's typology:

• Domination: In this style of relationship, one partner seeks to control and manage the relationship by making decisions and setting rules for both individuals. The dominating partner may disregard the needs and desires of the other, leading to tension, dissatisfaction, and even conflicts.

• Manipulation: In relationships based on manipulation, one or both partners employ tactics such as lying, exaggeration, or intentional use of guilt to achieve their goals. This style of relationship can result in distrust, disappointment, and alienation between partners.

• Competition: In competitive relationships, both partners strive for success and personal achievement, even at the expense of the other. Such relationships can be tense, as partners constantly compete and try to outdo each other, leading to feelings of insecurity and dissatisfaction.

• Collaboration: In collaborative relationships, partners aim for mutual support and joint decision-making. They discuss their views, needs, and expectations, seeking agreement and mutual understanding. This style of relationship involves openness, honesty, and a willingness to work together for the common good.

• Companionship: Companionship style is characterized by deep attachment, mutual respect, and trust between partners. In such relationships, partners take responsibility for each other's well-being and happiness, striving for collaboration and joint problem-solving. This entails building strong emotional bonds, genuine interaction, and harmonious coexistence.

Each management style has its advantages and disadvantages and can be effective in different situations. It is important for partners to communicate with each other and choose a management style that best suits their relationship and helps them solve problems together.

Leadership and management style influence romantic relationships between partners. Some studies suggest that leadership style can be linked to the quality of relationships. For example, a democratic management style, where partners make decisions together, may be associated with higher-quality relationships compared to an authoritarian style, where one partner controls and manages the relationship.

It is essential to remember that there are other factors that can influence romantic relationships, such as empathy and mutual support levels, quality of communication, and more. Overall, the quality of relationships depends on various factors, and management style is one of them, but it is not the sole determining factor.
